Mirabegron

Mirabegron is used in treatment of overactive bladder which activates the B3 adrenergic receptor in the detrusor muscle in the bladder, leading to muscle relaxation and an increase in bladder capacity.

Indications

Overactive Bladder (OAB) in adults


Dosage

Typical dosage is 25 mg once daily, which may be increased to 50 mg once daily based on individual response and tolerability.


Contra-Indications

-Severe renal impairment -Severe hepatic impairment -Uncontrolled hypertension -Known hypersensitivity to Mirabegron


Special Precautions

-Paediatric:Safety and efficacy not yet established. -Pregnancy: Category C. -Lactation: Data not sufficient. -Elderly: Use with caution.


Side Effects

-Hypertension -Headache -Nasopharyngitis -Urinary tract infection -Dry mouth -Constipation


Drug Interactions

-May interact with drugs metabolized by CYP2D6 -Avoid concurrent use with strong CYP2D6 inhibitors -Caution when used with medications that affect blood pressure
