MIZOLASTINE

It is a specific and selective antagonist of peripheral histamine H1 receptors. At therapeutic doses mizolastine does not impair psychomotor functions.

Indications

Allergic rhinitis, seasonal and perennial, chronic urticaria.


Dosage

Adults and child over 12 years : 10mg once daily.


Contra-Indications

Hypersensitivity, pregnancy, lactation, clinically significant cardiac disease, bradycardia, history of symptomatic arrhythmias, electrolyte imbalance, particularly hypokalemia, patients taking drugs known to prolong QT interval.


Special Precautions

Hepatic impairment, tasks requiring mental alertness, children under 12 years.


Side Effects

Drowsiness, fatigue, increased appetite, dry mouth, abdominal pain, vertigo, incidence is low.


Drug Interactions

Concomitant administration with drugs known to prolong the QT interval as macrolide antibiotics or imidazole antifungals (eg ketoconazole) can increase the risk. Antidepressants and anxiolytics enhance sedative effect.
