Mometasone

Mometasone is a potent corticosteroid used to reduce inflammation, swelling, and allergic reactions in various conditions. It is commonly used in the form of nasal sprays, inhalers, topical creams, and ointments.

Indications

-Allergic rhinitis -Nasal polyps -Asthma (inhaled form) -Skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis (topical form)


Dosage

-Nasal Spray: 1-2 sprays in each nostril once daily -Inhaler: As directed by a healthcare provider -Topical: Apply a thin layer to the affected area once or twice daily


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to mometasone or any of its components -Untreated bacterial, fungal, or viral infections in the application area


Special Precautions

-Use with caution in patients with tuberculosis, ocular herpes simplex, or any untreated infections -Avoid contact with eyes when using topical forms -Monitor for signs of adrenal suppression with long-term use


Side Effects

-Nasal irritation or dryness -Headache -Sore throat -Cough -Skin irritation (topical form)


Drug Interactions

-Concurrent use with other corticosteroids can increase the risk of side effects -Interaction with certain antifungals (e.g., ketoconazole) may increase mometasone levels
