Naphazoline Hcl

Naphazoline Hydrochloride is a sympathomimetic amine commonly used as a decongestant. It is effective in reducing swelling and congestion in the nasal passages and eyes.

Indications

-Relief of nasal congestion associated with colds, hay fever, allergies, or sinusitis. -Reduction of eye redness and swelling caused by minor eye irritations.


Dosage

Adults and children over 12 years: 1-2 drops in each nostril every 4-6 hours as needed.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to Naphazoline or any of its components. -Patients with narrow-angle glaucoma. -Children under 12 years (for nasal use) and under 6 years (for eye drops).


Special Precautions

-Use with caution in patients with hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hyperthyroidism, or prostate hypertrophy. -Avoid prolonged use to prevent rebound congestion. -Not recommended for use in children under 6 years without medical advice.


Side Effects

-Temporary stinging or burning sensation. -Dryness of the nasal mucosa. -Headache, dizziness, or nausea. -Increased blood pressure. -Potential for rebound congestion with prolonged use.


Drug Interactions

-Increased risk of hypertension when used with MAO inhibitors. -Potential interaction with other sympathomimetic drugs. -Use caution when combining with beta-blockers or tricyclic antidepressants.
