Naphazoline Nitrate

Naphazoline Nitrate is a decongestant used to relieve redness, puffiness, and itchy/watering eyes due to colds, allergies, or eye irritations (smog, swimming, or contact lenses).

Indications

-Relieves eye redness, puffiness, and itching due to colds, allergies, or irritants. -Used for temporary relief of minor eye irritation.


Dosage

-Adults and children 12 years and older: 1-2 drops in the affected eye(s) every 3-4 hours as needed. -Children under 12 years: Consult a physician.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to Naphazoline or any component of the formulation. -Narrow-angle glaucoma.


Special Precautions

-Use with caution in patients with hypertension, cardiovascular abnormalities, hyperthyroidism, or diabetes. Avoid prolonged use to prevent rebound congestion. -Remove contact lenses before use and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them.


Side Effects

-Mild stinging or burning sensation in the eye. -Blurred vision. -Increased redness or irritation of the eye. -Headache, dizziness, or nausea (rare).


Drug Interactions

-Avoid using other ophthalmic medications containing decongestants. -May interact with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) and other antidepressants.
