NEFOPAM

It is a non-narcotic analgesic drug indicated for relief of various types of acute and chronic pain. It does not cause respiratory depression as well as habituation or addiction.

Indications

Acute and chronic pain, including post operative, dental, cancer, musculo-skeletal, traumatic pain.


Dosage

30-90 mg, 3 times a day. Elderly initially 30 mg thrice daily.


Contra-Indications

Not to use in children, convulsions and C.N.S. disorders. Myocardial infarction.


Special Precautions

Renal and hepatic dysfunction, urinary retention. Paediatrics: Not recommended. Pregnancy: Safety not established. Lactation: Use with caution. Elderly: Reduced dose is necessary.


Side Effects

Dry mouth, dizziness, nausea, nervousness, blurred vision, sweating, insomnia, headache, tachycardia.


Drug Interactions

With MAOIs may produce a dangerous rise in blood pressure, nefopam increases the side effects of anticholinergics and sympathomimetic decongestants
