NEPHAZOLINE HYDROCHLORIDE

Nephazoline Hydrochloride is a vasoconstrictor primarily used in ophthalmic and nasal formulations to relieve redness, swelling, and congestion.

Indications

-Relief of redness and congestion in the eyes -Treatment of nasal congestion


Dosage

-Ophthalmic Use: 1-2 drops in the affected eye(s) up to 4 times daily. -Nasal Use: 1-2 sprays in each nostril up to 3 times daily.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to Nephazoline or any other component of the formulation -Narrow-angle glaucoma -Severe hypertension -Monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) therapy


Special Precautions

-Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular diseases -Avoid prolonged use; may cause rebound congestion -Not recommended for use in children under 12 years of age


Side Effects

-Burning or stinging sensation in the eyes -Dryness of the nasal mucosa -Increased intraocular pressure -Headache -Nausea


Drug Interactions

-Concomitant use with MAOIs can lead to severe hypertensive reactions -Increased risk of adverse effects with beta-blockers
