NETILMICIN

NETILMICIN

It is water soluble bactericidal aminoglycoside.

Indications

Bacteraemia, Septicaemia, Respiratory tract, Kidney and genitourinary tract, Skin, Soft tissue, bone, joints, burns, wounds, pre-operative, intra-abdominal and gastro-intestinal tract infections.Infections caused by micro-organisms resistant to Kanamycin, gentamicin, tobramycin, sisomicin and amikacin.


Dosage

Adults : 4 to 6 mg/kg/day in 1-3 equal divided doses. Paediatric Patients : One week or less 3.0 mg/kg every 12 hrs. Neonates and infants : 2.5 to 3.0 mg/kg every 8 hrs. Children : 2.0 to 2.5 mg/kg every 8 hrs.

Neurotoxicity, Nephrotoxicity. Paediatrics & Elderly: Use with caution. Pregnancy & Lactation: Use with caution


Side Effects

Ototoxicity, pain at injection site, headache, visual disturbances, disorientation, tachycardia, hypotension.


Drug Interactions

Enhances toxicity of frusemide and ethacrynic acid. Potentiates neurotoxicity/nephrotoxicity by other aminoglycosides, cephaloridine, polymixin B, cisplatin and vancomycin. Potentiates neuromuscular blocking agents. Incompatible with beta-lactum antibiotics.
