NORFLOXACIN WITH METRONIDAZOLE

Norfloxacin with Metronidazole is a combination of antibiotics used to treat various bacterial and protozoal infections. Norfloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, and Metronidazole is an antimicrobial agent effective against anaerobic bacteria and certain parasites.

Indications

-Bacterial Infections: Effective against urinary tract infections, gastrointestinal infections, and respiratory infections caused by susceptible bacteria. -Protozoal Infections: Used for the treatment of certain protozoal infections like giardiasis and amebiasis. -Treatment of diarrhoea and dysentery of amoebic,bacterial or mixed origins.


Dosage

-Dosage depends on the specific infection, patient factors, and susceptibility of the causative organisms. The combination is usually administered orally. -The dosage is one tablet twice daily for 5-10 days.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity: Patients with known hypersensitivity to norfloxacin, metronidazole, or any component of the combination. -Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Caution is advised, and the use of this combination during pregnancy and breastfeeding should be determined by a healthcare professional.


Special Precautions

-Central Nervous System Disorders: Use with caution in patients with a history of seizures or other central nervous system disorders. -Renal Impairment: Adjustments in dosage may be required in patients with renal dysfunction.


Side Effects

Common side effects may include nausea, headache, and gastrointestinal disturbances. Serious side effects are rare but may include allergic reactions, neurologic effects, and changes in blood counts.


Drug Interactions

-Antacids and Mineral Supplements: Avoid concomitant use with antacids or mineral supplements containing aluminum, magnesium, or zinc, as they can reduce the absorption of norfloxacin. -Warfarin: Norfloxacin may enhance the anticoagulant effect of warfarin.
