NORFLOXACIN WITH TINIDAZOLE

Norfloxacin with Tinidazole is a combination of antibiotics that includes Norfloxacin, a fluoroquinolone, and Tinidazole, an antiprotozoal agent. This combination is used to treat various bacterial and protozoal infections, offering a broad-spectrum approach.

Indications

-Bacterial Infections: Effective against urinary tract infections, respiratory infections, and gastrointestinal infections caused by susceptible bacteria. -Protozoal Infections: Treats protozoal infections such as giardiasis and trichomoniasis. -Treatment of diarrhoea and dysentery of amoebic,bacterial or mixed origins.


Dosage

-Dosage depends on the specific infection, patient factors, and susceptibility of the causative organisms. The combination is typically administered orally. -The dosage is one tablt twice daily for 5-10 days.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity: Avoid in patients with known hypersensitivity to norfloxacin, tinidazole, or other quinolones. -Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Use with caution during pregnancy and avoid during breastfeeding. -In patients hypersensitive to quinolone group of compounds.


Special Precautions

-Central Nervous System Disorders: Caution in patients with a history of seizures or other central nervous system disorders. -Renal Impairment: Adjustments in dosage may be necessary in patients with renal dysfunction.


Side Effects

-Common side effects may include nausea, headache, and gastrointestinal disturbances. Serious side effects are rare but may include allergic reactions, central nervous system effects, and tendonitis. -Nausea, head ache, dizziness, fatigue, abdominal pain, dyspepsia, insomnia, constipation, heart burn and metallic taste.


Drug Interactions

-Antacids and Mineral Supplements: Avoid taking these concurrently with norfloxacin, as they may interfere with absorption. -Warfarin: Enhanced anticoagulant effects when used with norfloxacin. -Disulfiram like reaction when used with alcohol. Probenecid reduces the urinary excretion of Norfloxacin. Nitrofurantoin antagonises the effect of Norfloxacin. Theophylline level are increased when use with Norfloxacin. Effects of oral anticoagulant are increased.
