Noscapine

Chlophedianol HCl is an antihistamine and antitussive agent used primarily to relieve coughs and symptoms of the common cold. It works by suppressing the cough reflex in the brain.

Indications

-Cough associated with the common cold -Cough due to upper respiratory tract infections -Symptomatic relief of cough


Dosage

-Adults: Typically 10-20 mg every 4-6 hours, not to exceed 120 mg per day. -Children: Dosage depends on age and weight; consult a healthcare provider for precise dosing instructions.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to Chlophedianol or any of its components -Patients with a history of hypersensitivity reactions to other antihistamines -Concurrent use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or within 14 days of stopping MAOIs


Special Precautions

-Use with caution in patients with a history of asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). -May cause drowsiness; avoid operating heavy machinery or driving until you know how the medication affects you. -Consult a healthcare provider if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.


Side Effects

-Common: Drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth -Less common: Nausea, vomiting, blurred vision, constipation


Drug Interactions

-May interact with other CNS depressants, increasing the risk of drowsiness or sedation. -Potential interaction with antihypertensive medications, leading to reduced effectiveness. -Avoid use with alcohol and other depressants.
