OMEPRAZOLE MAGNESIUM

Omeprazole Magnesium is a proton pump inhibitor used to reduce stomach acid production. It is commonly used to treat conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcers, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

Indications

-Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) -Peptic ulcers -Zollinger-Ellison syndrome -Erosive esophagitis due to acid reflux


Dosage

-Adults: Typically 20 mg to 40 mg once daily before a meal. Dosage may vary based on the condition being treated. -Pediatric Use: Dosage for children is based on weight and specific condition.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to omeprazole or any component of the formulation. -Caution in patients with liver impairment.


Special Precautions

-Monitor for signs of Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea. -Use with caution in patients with severe liver disease. -May interfere with absorption of other medications.


Side Effects

-Common: Headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation. -Rare: Rash, allergic reactions, liver enzyme abnormalities.


Drug Interactions

-May reduce the effectiveness of drugs requiring acidic pH for absorption (e.g., ketoconazole, atazanavir). -Can increase the plasma levels of certain drugs (e.g., warfarin, diazepam).
