Oxprenolol

Oxprenolol

It is a non-selective beta-blocker with intrinsic sympathomimetic activity.

Indications

Used in the treatment of angina, pectoris, arrhythmia.


Dosage

20mg thrice daily.


Contra-Indications

Asthma, allergy, bradycardia, hypotension.


Special Precautions

Oxprenolol amy mask symptoms of hypoglycemia so should be used with caution in diabetes patients. Used with caution in hyperthyroidism, kidney and liver disease and before anaesthesia. It has been reported to have teratogenic potential and is not recommended during first trimester of pregnancy. It leads to dizziness therefore use of machinery or driving is to be avoided when taking this medication. Alcohol consumption is also not recommended when taking this medicine.


Side Effects

Dizziness, anxiety, confusion, light headache, skin rashes, hallucinations, fever, bleeding, chest pain.


Drug Interactions

Cimetidine, anti-diabetes medicine, anti-migraine drugs, reserpine, guanethidine, MAO inhibitors.
