PANCURONIUM BROMIDE

Pancuronium Bromide is a neuromuscular blocker that induces muscle relaxation by blocking neuromuscular transmission. It is often used in surgical procedures and in the intensive care setting.

Indications

-Induction and maintenance of neuromuscular blockade during surgical procedures -Facilitation of endotracheal intubation -Muscle relaxation in patients under general anesthesia


Dosage

-Adult Dose: Typically 0.04-0.1 mg/kg administered intravenously. Dosage may vary based on the surgical procedure and the patient’s condition. -Pediatric Dose: Dosage is adjusted based on weight and clinical condition.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to Pancuronium Bromide -Patients with severe renal impairment -Patients with myasthenia gravis or other neuromuscular disorders


Special Precautions

-Use with caution in patients with liver or kidney dysfunction -Monitor respiratory function closely during and after administration -Adjust dosage in patients with electrolyte imbalances


Side Effects

-Muscle weakness -Tachycardia -Hypertension -Respiratory depression -Allergic reactions such as rash or urticaria


Drug Interactions

-May interact with other neuromuscular blockers or general anesthetics, potentially enhancing neuromuscular blockade -May interact with antibiotics such as aminoglycosides, increasing neuromuscular effects -Caution with agents affecting electrolyte balance
