Paracetamol, Chlorpheniramine, Dextromethorphan

Paracetamol (acetaminophen), Chlorpheniramine, and Dextromethorphan is a combination medication used to treat symptoms associated with colds, allergies, or flu. Paracetamol is an analgesic and antipyretic, Chlorpheniramine is an antihistamine, and Dextromethorphan is a cough suppressant.

Indications

-Relief of symptoms of common cold, flu, and allergies -Reduction of fever -Relief from cough and upper respiratory congestion


Dosage

-Adults and children over 12 years: 1-2 tablets or 10-20 ml syrup every 4-6 hours as needed, not exceeding 8 tablets or 120 ml syrup in 24 hours. -Children 6-12 years: 5-10 ml syrup every 4-6 hours as needed, not exceeding 60 ml in 24 hours. -Children under 6 years: Consult a doctor for appropriate dosage.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to Paracetamol, Chlorpheniramine, Dextromethorphan, or any of the excipients -Severe liver impairment or active liver disease -Use of monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) within the last 14 days


Special Precautions

-Use with caution in patients with liver or kidney impairment -Avoid alcohol consumption as it may increase the risk of liver damage -Not recommended for use in children under 6 years without medical advice -May cause drowsiness; do not drive or operate machinery if affected -Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult a healthcare professional before use


Side Effects

-Drowsiness, dizziness -Nausea, vomiting, gastrointestinal discomfort -Allergic reactions such as rash, itching, or swelling -Dry mouth, blurred vision -Liver damage with prolonged use or overdose of Paracetamol


Drug Interactions

-Increased risk of liver damage when taken with other hepatotoxic drugs or alcohol -Enhanced sedative effect when combined with other CNS depressants like alcohol, benzodiazepines -Interaction with MAOIs can lead to hypertensive crisis -Anticholinergic effects may be increased when taken with other anticholinergic drugs
