PCM

PCM, commonly known as Paracetamol, is a widely used over-the-counter medication for the relief of pain and reduction of fever. It is often used for headaches, muscle aches, arthritis, backaches, toothaches, colds, and fevers.

Indications

PCM is indicated for the relief of mild to moderate pain such as headaches, muscle pain, and toothaches, as well as for reducing fever associated with various conditions.


Dosage

-Adults: 500 mg to 1000 mg every 4-6 hours as needed. Do not exceed 4000 mg per day. -Children (6-12 years): 250 mg to 500 mg every 4-6 hours as needed. Do not exceed 2000 mg per day. -Children under 6 years: Consult a physician for appropriate dosage.


Contra-Indications

-Allergy to Paracetamol or any of its components. -Severe liver impairment or liver disease. -Use with caution in individuals with chronic alcoholism.


Special Precautions

-Use with caution in patients with liver disease, kidney disease, or chronic alcoholism. -Avoid using in combination with other products containing Paracetamol to prevent overdose. -Monitor liver function tests in long-term use.


Side Effects

-Rare: Allergic reactions, rash, and itching. -Very rare: Severe liver damage, especially with overdose.


Drug Interactions

-May interact with anticoagulants like warfarin, increasing bleeding risk. -Potential interaction with drugs that affect liver enzyme activity, such as certain anticonvulsants and anti-TB drugs.
