Perindopril with Indapamide
Perindopril with Indapamide is a combination medication used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It combines two active ingredients, perindopril, an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor, and indapamide, a diuretic (thiazide-like). Perindopril is an ACE inhibitor that works by relaxing blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more easily. Indapamide is a thiazide-like diuretic that helps the body remove excess salt and water, reducing fluid retention and lowering blood pressure. This combination is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension (high blood pressure) when monotherapy with either perindopril or indapamide is insufficient.
Dosage may vary depending on individual patient needs and response. Typically, the starting dose may be one tablet per day, and adjustments are made as necessary under the supervision of a healthcare professional.
-Known hypersensitivity to perindopril, indapamide, or any other ACE inhibitors or thiazide diuretics. -History of angioedema related to previous ACE inhibitor therapy. -Severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance <30 mL/min). -Anuria (absence of urine production).
-Renal function should be monitored regularly. -Hypotension may occur, especially in patients with sodium and/or volume depletion. -Dual blockade of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) should be avoided. -Electrolyte imbalances, particularly hypokalemia, should be corrected.
Common side effects may include dizziness, headache, hypotension, cough, and electrolyte disturbances. Serious side effects may include renal impairment, hyperkalemia, and angioedema.
-Potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, or potassium-containing salt substitutes may increase the risk of hyperkalemia. -Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) may reduce the antihypertensive effect. -Lithium levels may be increased when taken concomitantly.
