Phentolamine Mesylate

It is a short acting a blocker.

Indications

Pheochromocytoma, extravasation of noradrenaline or dopamine causing hypertensive episode.


Dosage

Hypertensive Episodes: 2-5 mg by intravenous injection, repeat if necessary. Pheochromocytoma: As advised.


Contra-Indications

Hypotension, history of myocardial infarction, coronary insufficiency, angina.


Special Precautions

Monitor blood pressure, Heart rate, gastritis, peptic ulcer, renal impairment.


Side Effects

Postual hypotension, dizziness, tachycardia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, nasal congestion, chest pain, arrhythmias.


Drug Interactions

Avoid concomitant cardiac glycosides.
