PIRIBEDIL
It is a Dopamine agonist.Cerebrovascular insufficiency, Cerebral aging: memory & vigilance disorders, giddiness in the elderly, disorders of intellectual function, concentration, tendency to depression; tinnitus, hypoacusis & vertigo; suggested in retinal ischaemic accidents, macular degeneration & for improvement in visual acuity & visual contrast sensitivity. Parkinson's disease
one tablet daily with meals. In severe forms one tablet twice daily with meals. Parkinson's disease: One to four tablets daily, depending on patient's response, in divided doses with meals.
Cardiovascular collapse, myocardial infarction in its acute phase, pregnancy.
Do not administer concurrently with centrally acting dopaminergic antogonists e.g., neuroleptics - haloperidol. Paediatrics: Not recommended. Pregnancy: Not usually prescribed. Lactation: Should not be used. Elderly: Safe.
Gastrointestinal upsets.
Dopamine antagonists like phenothiazines and haloperidol may antagonise effects of piribedil.
