PIROXICAM-b-CYCLODEXTRIN

Piroxicam-beta-cyclodextrin is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) complex, where piroxicam, an anti-inflammatory agent, is combined with beta-cyclodextrin to enhance its solubility and absorption. This combination is used to relieve pain and inflammation associated with various conditions. This is a complexation entity of piroxicam with b-cyclodextrin. The complexation of PIROXICAM with b-cyclodextrin facilitates the release of piroxicam at the gastric mucosal level in the form of free molecules which can then be absorbed later. This also results in less gastric irritation due to reduced contact time with gastric mucosa. The complexation of PIROXICAM with b-Cyclodextrin is in the ratio of 1:2.5.

Indications

Musculoskeletal pain, pain associated with dysmenorrhoea, headache, post-traumatic pain, post operative pain, migraine, low back pain, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, dental pain.

Dosage

-Adults: Typically, the dose is 20 mg of piroxicam once daily. For acute musculoskeletal disorders and postoperative pain, the treatment usually starts with a higher dose followed by a maintenance dose as advised by a healthcare provider. -Children: Not recommended for use in children.

Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to piroxicam, beta-cyclodextrin, or any excipients. -History of asthma, urticaria, or allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs. -Active or history of recurrent peptic ulcer/hemorrhage. -Severe heart failure, liver failure, or renal failure. -Third trimester of pregnancy.

Special Precautions

Before using Piroxicam-Beta-Cyclodextrin / Piroxicam, inform your doctor about your current list of medications, over the counter products, allergies, pre-existing diseases, and current health conditions. Side Effects

-Gastrointestinal disturbances (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain) -Headache, dizziness -Skin reactions (rash, itching) -Edema, hypertension -Rare but severe side effects include gastrointestinal bleeding, liver toxicity, and severe skin reactions (e.g., Stevens-Johnson syndrome).

Drug Interactions

If you use other drugs or over the counter products at the same time, the effects of Piroxicam-Beta-Cyclodextrin / Piroxicam may change. This may increase your risk for side-effects or cause your drug not to work properly.
