PITAVASTATIN
Pitavastatin is a statin medication used to lower cholesterol levels in the blood. It helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases such as heart attack and stroke by inhibiting the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase, which is involved in cholesterol production.-Primary hyperlipidemia -Mixed dyslipidemia -Hypercholesterolemia
-Adults: Typically, the initial dose is 1 mg to 2 mg once daily. The dose may be adjusted based on response and tolerability, with a maximum dose of 4 mg per day. -Elderly: Start with a lower dose and adjust as needed. -Children: Safety and efficacy have not been established in children.
-Hypersensitivity to Pitavastatin or any of its components -Active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations of liver transaminases -Pregnant or breastfeeding women
-Monitor liver function periodically. -Use with caution in patients with a history of liver disease. -Caution in patients with renal impairment. -Avoid alcohol and grapefruit juice during treatment.
-Common: Muscle pain, back pain, abdominal pain, headache -Serious: Rhabdomyolysis, liver enzyme abnormalities, jaundice -Rare: Allergic reactions, severe muscle breakdown, kidney damage
-May interact with cyclosporine, gemfibrozil, and other drugs that affect CYP3A4 enzyme. -Avoid concurrent use with other statins or fibrates. -Monitor for increased risk of myopathy or rhabdomyolysis when used with certain antibiotics or antifungals.
