Potassium Citrate is a potassium salt used primarily to prevent and treat potassium deficiency. It is commonly used in the treatment of kidney stones and to help prevent the formation of new stones by increasing urinary pH.

Indications

-Treatment of hypokalemia (potassium deficiency) -Prevention and treatment of kidney stones -Management of certain conditions that require potassium supplementation


Dosage

-Typical adult dosage: 10-20 mEq, 2-3 times daily. -Dosage may vary based on the condition being treated and patient-specific factors.


Contra-Indications

-Hyperkalemia (high potassium levels) -Severe renal impairment -Addison's disease (unless under strict medical supervision)


Special Precautions

-Monitor potassium levels regularly during treatment. -Use with caution in patients with renal impairment. -Adjust dosage in patients on a potassium-restricted diet or those with conditions affecting potassium balance.
