POVIDONE IODINE
Povidone Iodine is an antiseptic used for skin disinfection before and after surgery. It may be used to disinfect both the skin of the patient and the hands of the healthcare providers. It can also be used for minor wounds and burns, and for the treatment and prevention of infections in cuts, grazes, and abrasions.-Preoperative skin preparation -Treatment and prevention of infections in wounds, cuts, and burns -Hand hygiene in healthcare settings
-Topical Application: Apply a small amount of Povidone Iodine to the affected area 1-3 times daily or as directed by a healthcare professional. -Preoperative Skin Preparation: Apply the solution to the skin and allow it to dry before surgery.
-Known hypersensitivity to iodine or any component of the formulation -Thyroid disorders -Use in neonates or during pregnancy unless prescribed by a doctor
-Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes -Use with caution in patients with renal impairment -Prolonged use may cause iodine absorption leading to thyroid dysfunction
-Skin irritation -Redness or swelling at the application site -Allergic reactions (rare)
-Concurrent use with lithium may potentiate hypothyroidism -Avoid simultaneous use with other antiseptics, such as hydrogen peroxide or silver sulfadiazine, as they may interfere with the effectiveness of Povidone Iodine
