PSEUDOEPHEDRINE
Pseudoephedrine is a medication commonly used as a decongestant to relieve nasal congestion in conditions such as the common cold, sinusitis, and allergic rhinitis. It works by constricting blood vessels in the nasal passages, leading to reduced swelling and congestion.-Nasal congestion due to colds, allergies, or sinus infections -Congestion associated with respiratory tract infections
-Adults and Children over 12 years: 60 mg every 4-6 hours as needed (maximum 240 mg per day) -Children 6-12 years: 30 mg every 4-6 hours as needed (maximum 120 mg per day) -Children under 6 years: Consult a physician for appropriate dosage
-Hypersensitivity to pseudoephedrine or any component of the formulation -Severe hypertension or severe coronary artery disease -Concurrent use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or within 14 days of stopping MAOIs
-Use with caution in patients with hypertension, coronary artery disease, diabetes mellitus, thyroid disorders, or prostatic hypertrophy. -Monitor for signs of increased blood pressure or heart rate. -Avoid use in patients with a history of drug abuse due to potential for misuse.
-Common: Insomnia, dizziness, headache, nausea, nervousness, dry mouth -Less common: Palpitations, increased blood pressure, urinary retention, rash
-May interact with MAOIs, leading to hypertensive crisis -Can increase the effects of stimulants or increase blood pressure when used with certain antidepressants or antihypertensives -May reduce the efficacy of antihypertensive medications
