Quetiapine Fumarate
Antagonist at multiple neurotransmitter receptors in brain, specially 5 HT1a, 5 HT2, D1 & D2, H1 and a1 and a2Psychotic Disorders, mood and anxiety disorders, aggression, hostility, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, delirium.
Twice daily. Adults : The total daily dose for the first four days of therapy is 50mg (Day 1), 100mg (Day 2), 200mg (Day 3) and 300mg (Day 4). From day 4 onwards, the dose should be titrated to the usual effective dose range of 300 to 450mg/day.
Known history of hypersensitivity to the drug
Cautious use in patients requiring mental alertness during their jobs such as drivers, pilots etc. Use cautiously in patient predisposed to aspiration pneumonia. Avoid alcohol during therapy.
Orthostatic hypotension with dizziness and syncope, seizuer, dose related decrease in total and free T4. Asymptomatic but reversible increase in serum transaminases, somnolence, priapism.
Antihypertensives :Increases the effect of Antihypertensives. Levodopa : Antagonizes Levodopa and dopamine agonists. Phenytoin and other enzyme inducers : Coadministration requires dose to be increased. Ketoconazole increases plasma concentration, Lorazepam : It decreases oral clearance of Lorazepam.
