RICEDRONATE SODIUM

Ricedronate Sodium is a bisphosphonate used to treat and prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and men. It helps in increasing bone mass and reducing the risk of fractures by inhibiting bone resorption.

Indications

-Treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women -Prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women -Treatment of osteoporosis in men -Treatment of Paget's disease of bone


Dosage

-Osteoporosis: 35 mg once weekly or 150 mg once monthly. -Paget’s Disease: 30 mg daily for up to 6 months.


Contra-Indications

-Hypocalcemia -Esophageal abnormalities that delay esophageal emptying -Severe renal impairment -Known hypersensitivity to Ricedronate Sodium or any of its components


Special Precautions

-Ensure adequate calcium and vitamin D intake -Avoid use in patients with upper gastrointestinal disorders -Monitor renal function periodically


Side Effects

-Gastrointestinal discomfort -Esophageal irritation -Musculoskeletal pain -Rarely, osteonecrosis of the jaw


Drug Interactions

-Antacids or calcium supplements (should be taken at a different time) -Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) might increase the risk of gastrointestinal irritation
