RISPERIDONE
Risperidone a benzisoxazole derivative, is a novel antipsychotic agent that has an extremely strong binding affinity for serotonin -5 HT2 receptors, a strong binding affinity for dopamine D2 reeptors and histamine H1 receptors. It has a high affinity for alpha1, and alpha2 adrenergic receptors and histamine H1 receptors. Its affinity for serotonin receptors is approximately 200 times greater than that of haloperidol.Psychotic disorder. Specifically indicated for management of schizophrenia.
1 mg twice daily is followed with increases in increments of 1 mg twice daily on the second and third day, as per toleraility to a target of 3 mg twice daily by the third day.
Hypersensitivity.
Paediatrics: Safety not established. Pregnancy & Lactation:Should not be used. Elderly: Reduced dose necessary.
Sedation, insomnia, agitation extra pyramidal symptoms, dizziness, anxiety and rhinitis
Levodopa and dopamine carbamazepine, clozapine.
