Roflumilast

Roflumilast is a phosphodiesterase-4 (PDE4) inhibitor used primarily in the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It works by reducing inflammation and relaxing the airways.

Indications

-Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) -Prevention of exacerbations in COPD patients


Dosage

-Initial Dose: 500 mcg once daily. -Adjustment: Dosage adjustments may be required based on tolerability and response.


Contra-Indications

-Known hypersensitivity to Roflumilast or any of its excipients. -Severe hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh C).


Special Precautions

-Paediatric: Safety and efficacy not established in paediatric group. -Pregnancy: Category C. -Lactation: Not to be used by lactating mother. -Elderly: Use with caution.


Side Effects

-Gastrointestinal disorders (nausea, diarrhea) -Weight loss -Insomnia -Headache -Psychiatric effects (depression, anxiety)


Drug Interactions

Rifampicin, phenobarbital, carbamazepine, erythromycin, ketoconazole, fluvoxamine, enoxacin, cimetidine, oral contraceptives.
