SEVOFLURANE



Indications

Induction and maintenance of general anesthesia during surgery.


Dosage

Adults - inhaled as vaporized liquid, dose individualized based on the patient's response. Surgical levels of anesthesia can usually be achieved with concentrations of 0.5-3% sevoflurane with or without the concomitant use of nitrous oxide. Sevoflurane can be administered with any type of anesthesia circuit


Contra-Indications

Patients with known or suspected susceptibility to malignant hyperthermia.


Special Precautions

Dose-dependent decreases in blood pressure or respiratory depression, pregnancy. The average concentration of sevoflurane to achieve MAC in an 80 years old in approximately 50% of that required in a 20 years old. Seizures in children and young adults, interactions.


Side Effects

Hypotension, malignant hyperthermia in susceptible individuals. Hepatotoxicity is low does not respiratory irritation.
