Sisomicin Sulfate
Sisomicin Sulfate is an antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. It is a member of the aminoglycoside class of antibiotics and works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis.-Treatment of serious infections caused by susceptible gram-negative bacteria. -Often used in cases of severe infections that are resistant to other antibiotics. -May be used for specific infections such as sepsis, respiratory tract infections, and urinary tract infections.
-Adults: Typically, 1-3 mg/kg/day in 1-3 divided doses. Dosage may vary depending on the severity of the infection and renal function. -Children: Dosage should be adjusted according to the child's weight and the specific infection. -Renal Impairment: Dose adjustments are required based on the level of renal function.
-Hypersensitivity to Sisomicin or other aminoglycosides. -Severe renal impairment (except with careful monitoring). -Pre-existing neuromuscular disorders that could be exacerbated by the drug.
-Monitor renal function regularly due to potential nephrotoxicity. -Monitor for signs of ototoxicity, including hearing loss and balance issues. -Use with caution in patients with a history of neuromuscular disorders. -Adjust dosage in cases of renal impairment.
-Nephrotoxicity (kidney damage). -Ototoxicity (hearing loss and balance disorders). -Allergic reactions such as rash, urticaria, or anaphylaxis. -Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. -Neuromuscular blockade in high doses.
-Nephrotoxic drugs: Increased risk of kidney damage when used with other nephrotoxic drugs (e.g., vancomycin, amphotericin B). -Ototoxic drugs: Concurrent use with other ototoxic drugs can increase the risk of hearing loss. -Neuromuscular blockers: May enhance the effects of neuromuscular blockers, leading to increased risk of muscle weakness.
