Solifenacin

It is a muscarinic antagonist. It decreases the tone of overactive bladder so decreases frequency, urgency and incontinence.

Indications

Overactive bladder


Dosage

Oral; 5-10mg once daily.


Contra-Indications

Uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma, urinary retention, gastric retention.


Special Precautions

Paediatric : safety not established Pregnancy: category C. Use if risk to fetus outweigs benefits. Lactation: Not known if excreted in milk. Elderly: safe to use


Side Effects

Peripheral edema, urinary reterntion, glaucoma, hypersensitivity reactions, headache, confusion and hallucinations; QT prolongation; Torsade de pointers.


Drug Interactions

May interfere with the prokinetic effects of cisapride and metoclopramide, CYP3A4 inhibitors may increase its plasma level.
