SULBUTAMOL

Sulbutamol is a medication primarily used as a bronchodilator to treat conditions such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It helps to relax the muscles of the airways, making breathing easier.

Indications

-Treatment of asthma -Management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) -Relief of bronchospasm

Dosage

-Adults: Typically 2 to 4 mg, 3 to 4 times daily, adjusted based on individual response. -Children: Dosage should be determined by a healthcare provider, usually starting at 1 to 2 mg, 3 to 4 times daily.

Contra-Indications

-Known hypersensitivity to Sulbutamol or any of its components -Severe cardiovascular disorders -Severe renal or hepatic impairment

Special Precautions

-Use with caution in patients with heart disease, hypertension, or diabetes. -Monitor for possible hypokalemia and hyperglycemia. -Regularly assess for side effects such as tremors or palpitations.

Side Effects

-Common: Tremors, headache, dizziness, nervousness -Less common: Palpitations, muscle cramps, dry mouth -Rare: Severe allergic reactions, significant changes in blood pressure

Drug Interactions

-May interact with other beta-adrenergic agents, leading to additive effects. -Caution with MAO inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants due to potential cardiovascular effects. -Monitor interactions with potassium-depleting diuretics, as Sulbutamol may enhance hypokalemia.
