SULPHADIMIDINE

Indications

Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to sulfonamides -Severe renal or hepatic impairment -Porphyria -Infants less than 2 months old

-Use with caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment -Maintain adequate fluid intake to prevent crystalluria and kidney damage -Regular blood counts should be performed during long-term therapy -Monitor for signs of hypersensitivity reactions


Side Effects

-Anticoagulants: Enhanced effect of anticoagulants -Methotrexate: Increased risk of methotrexate toxicity -Phenytoin: Increased phenytoin levels -Oral hypoglycemics: Enhanced hypoglycemic effect -Other sulfonamides: Increased risk of sulfonamide toxicity
