TAMOXIFEN CITRATE

It is a nonsteroidal antiestrogen,acts by binding to & decreasing the availability of estrogen receptors.Only those tumours which have estrogen receptors respond . Response rate is higher among post menopausal women.It is effective orally & has a long duration of action.

Indications

Palliative treatment of advanced or metastatic carcinoma breast.

Dosage

10-20 mg twice daily.

Contra-Indications

Pregnancy, hypersensitivity.

Special Precautions

It may be combined with oophorectomy. Paediatrics: Not recommended. Pregnancy: Should not be used. Lactation: Use with caution. Elderly: Use with caution.

Side Effects

Hot flashes, vomiting,vaginal bleeding, menstrual irregularities, pruritus vulvae, throm- bocytopenia, visual disturbances.

Drug Interactions

Effect of warfarin considerably enhanced with fatal results, bromocriptine increases the serum tamoxifen levels.
