TELCOPLANIN

Telcoplanin is an antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections, particularly those caused by Gram-positive bacteria. It works by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell walls.

Indications

-Treatment of serious infections caused by Gram-positive bacteria -Including infections in the respiratory tract, skin, and soft tissues -May be used for osteomyelitis, endocarditis, and other serious infections


Dosage

-Adult Dosage: Typically 6-10 mg/kg administered intravenously every 12 hours for the first 2-4 weeks, then once daily. -Pediatric Dosage: Adjusted based on body weight and severity of infection. -Dosage may vary based on specific patient needs and infection type.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to Telcoplanin or other glycopeptide antibiotics -Use with caution in patients with renal impairment or hearing loss


Special Precautions

-Monitor renal function and hearing regularly during treatment -Ensure adequate hydration to minimize nephrotoxicity -Caution in patients with a history of severe allergic reactions


Side Effects

-Common: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, rash -Serious: Nephrotoxicity, ototoxicity, infusion-related reactions, anaphylaxis
