TENOXICAM

TENOXICAM

It is NSAID of the oxicam class, having anti-inflammatory, analgesic & antipyretic activity. It is a potent inhibitor of prostaglandin biosynthesis by inhibiting the enzyme cyclo-oxygenase.

Indications

Osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, gout, non articular rheumatic conditions


Dosage

20 mg daily.Not recommended for children


Contra-Indications

Acute peptic ulceration, G.I. bleeding, severe gastritis. Hypersensitivity of NSAID's.


Special Precautions

Monitor on long term therapy (especially with G.I. disease). Renal, hepatic and cardiovascular functions. Paediatrics: Not recommended. Pregnancy: Contraindicated. Lactation: Contraindicated. Elderly: Reduced dose necessary.


Side Effects

Dyspepsia, nausea, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhoea, flatulence, indigestion, oedema, headache, rashes, blood dyscrasias. Visual disturbances. Raised liver enzymes.


Drug Interactions

Antacids, anticoagulants, other NSAID's, lithium, hypoglycaemics.
