TETANUS IMMUNOGLOBULIN (T.I.G)
Tetanus Immunoglobulin (T.I.G) is a preparation of antibodies used to prevent and treat tetanus infection, particularly in individuals who have been exposed to tetanus-prone wounds and are not adequately immunized. It provides passive immunity by neutralizing the tetanospasmin toxin produced by the Clostridium tetani bacteria.-Prophylaxis against tetanus in individuals with tetanus-prone wounds who are not adequately immunized. -Treatment of tetanus in conjunction with tetanus toxoid.
-Prophylaxis: Administer a single intramuscular dose of 250-500 units, depending on the severity of the wound and the patient's immunization history. -Treatment: Dosage and frequency are determined based on the severity of the tetanus infection and clinical judgment.
-Known hypersensitivity to Tetanus Immunoglobulin or any component of the formulation. -History of severe allergic reactions to immunoglobulins.
-Use with caution in patients with a history of anaphylactic reactions or severe allergies. -Monitor for signs of hypersensitivity during administration. -Ensure patients are up-to-date with tetanus toxoid vaccinations.
-Allergic reactions such as rash, itching, or swelling. -Fever or malaise. -Rare cases of anaphylaxis.
May interfere with live attenuated vaccines such as measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) and varicella, delaying their effectiveness. Vaccination should be scheduled accordingly.
