TETANUS TOXOID(Adsorbed)

It is a sterile, cloudy, uniform suspension of tetanus toxoid adsorbed on aluminium phosphate and suspended in isotonic sodium chloride solution.

Indications

To actively immunize all children from age of 3 months onwards. Risk of tetanus neonatorum in infants by immunizing pregnant mothers. To immunize civil population especially road workers,agricultural workers,industrial workers.


Dosage

For active primary immunization: Two doses each of 0.5 ml. by intramuscular route at an interval of 4 to 6 weeks. Reinforcing dose should be given 9 to 12 months later to increase the level of immunity. Booster dose:In case of all persons actively immunized a booster dose of 0.5ml should be given every 5years to maintain adequate level of immunity even if they do not suffer from any injury. For pregnant mothers: The immunization should be done by injecting two dose of Sii


Contra-Indications

Infants or children with fever, or other evidence of acute illness. Defer during outbreak of poliomyelitis.


Special Precautions

Anaphylactic or acute hyper (Betamethasone sensitivity reaction. Individuals receiving corticosteroids or other immunosuppressive drugs.


Side Effects

Mild local reactions consisting of pain erythema,tenderness & in duration at the injection site.
