THIAMIN E (Aneurine B1)

It acts as a coenzyme in carbohydrate metabolism: decarboxylatin of ketoacids, hexose monophosphate shunt. It also appears to play some role in neuromuscular transmission. Deficiency Symptoms: Dry Beriberi: polyneuritis with numbness, tingling, hyperesthesia, muscular weakness and atrophy resulting in ‘wrist drop’, ‘foot drop’, paralysis of whole limb, mental changes, sluggishness, poor memory, loss of appetite and constipation. Wet beriberi: Palpitation, breathlessness, high output cardiac failure & E.C.G changes.

Indications

Prophylactically in infants, pregnant women, chronic diarrhoeas. Beriberi. Chronic Alcoholics. In neurological and cardiovascular disorders, hyperemesis gravidarum, chronic anorexia, obstinate constipation.
