TIANEPTINE

It is characterised by an activity on mood disorders which places it in the median position in the bipolar classification of sedative and stimulant antidepressants.

Indications

Endogenous, neurotic and reactive depression, anxiodepressive states with gastrointestinal complaints in particular and anxiodepressive states in alcoholics during withdrawal.


Dosage

One tablet thrice a day to be taken at the beginning of the main meals.


Contra-Indications

Concurrent administration with MAOIs.


Special Precautions

In the case of general anaesthesia, discontinue treatment 24 or 48 hours before surgery. The dosages should be decreased gradually over 7 to 14 days. Dosage should be reduced in the cases of renal failure. Paediatrics: Not recommended. Pregnancy: Not recommended. Lactation: Not recommended. Elderly: Dosage should be reduced.


Side Effects

Drowsiness. Epigastric pain, abdominal pain, dry mouth, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, constipation, flatulence, insomnia, nightmares, asthenia, vertigo, headache, tremor, hot flushes, respiratory discomfort, mylgia, back pain.
