Triclosan

Triclosan is an antimicrobial agent used in various personal care products and household items to prevent bacterial growth and reduce the risk of infection.

Indications

-Antiseptic in soaps and hand sanitizers -Used in some toothpaste to prevent gum disease and cavities -Present in certain medical and cosmetic products to prevent bacterial contamination


Dosage

-For soaps and hand sanitizers: Apply as directed on the product label -For toothpaste: Follow instructions on the label for usage


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to Triclosan or any of the excipients in the product -Not recommended for use in newborns or infants without medical advice


Special Precautions

-Avoid contact with eyes; in case of accidental contact, rinse thoroughly with water -Should not be ingested; if swallowed, seek medical attention immediately -Use with caution in individuals with sensitive skin or existing skin conditions


Side Effects

-Skin irritation or rash -Allergic reactions including itching, swelling, or redness -In rare cases, prolonged use may lead to antibiotic resistance


Drug Interactions

No significant interactions reported; however, combining with other topical antimicrobial agents may increase the risk of skin irritation
