ULIPRISTAL ACETATE

Ulipristal Acetate is a selective progesterone receptor modulator (SPRM) used primarily for the treatment of uterine fibroids and as an emergency contraceptive.

Indications

-Emergency Contraception: To prevent pregnancy after unprotected intercourse or contraceptive failure. -Uterine Fibroids: To manage symptoms of moderate to severe uterine fibroids in premenopausal women.


Dosage

-Emergency Contraception: 30 mg orally, as a single dose within 120 hours after unprotected intercourse. -Uterine Fibroids: 5 mg orally, once daily for up to 3 months.


Contra-Indications

-Known or suspected pregnancy. -Severe liver impairment. -Known hypersensitivity to Ulipristal Acetate or any of its components. -Women with severe liver disease or a history of hormone-dependent tumors.


Special Precautions

-Monitor liver function regularly during treatment. -Use with caution in women with a history of cardiovascular disease. -Avoid use during breastfeeding. -Not recommended for long-term use beyond the prescribed duration.


Side Effects

-Headache -Nausea -Abdominal pain -Fatigue -Menstrual irregularities -Mood swings


Drug Interactions

Hormonal contraceptives, bosentan, barbiturates, felbamate, griseofulvin, carbamazapine, phenytoin, rifampicin, topiramate.
