VILAZODONE

Vilazodone is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) and a partial agonist of the serotonin receptor, primarily used to treat major depressive disorder (MDD).

Indications

Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) in adults.


Dosage

-Initial Dose: 10 mg once daily for the first week. -Maintenance Dose: Increase to 20 mg once daily after the first week. The dosage may be adjusted up to 40 mg once daily based on clinical response and tolerability.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity: Known hypersensitivity to vilazodone or any of its components. -Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs): Concurrent use with MAOIs or within 14 days of discontinuing MAOIs.


Special Precautions

-Serotonin Syndrome: Risk of serotonin syndrome if used with other serotonergic agents. -Mania: Caution in patients with a history of mania or bipolar disorder. -Liver Impairment: Use with caution in patients with liver impairment. -Pregnancy: Category C; should only be used if clearly needed.


Side Effects

-Common: Nausea, diarrhea, insomnia, dry mouth, dizziness. -Serious: Serotonin syndrome, suicidal thoughts or behavior, severe allergic reactions, increased risk of bleeding.
