Vortioxetine hydrobromide is a medication belonging to the class of antidepressants known as serotonin modulators and stimulators. It works by affecting the levels of serotonin in the brain, which helps in regulating mood.

Indications

Vortioxetine hydrobromide is indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults.


Dosage

The usual starting dose of vortioxetine hydrobromide is 10 mg once daily, with or without food. The dose may be increased to a maximum of 20 mg once daily based on individual patient response and tolerability.


Contra-Indications

Vortioxetine hydrobromide is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to vortioxetine or any of the inactive ingredients in the formulation.


Special Precautions

-Caution is advised when prescribing vortioxetine hydrobromide to patients with a history of suicidal ideation or behavior. -Patients should be monitored for signs of serotonin syndrome when vortioxetine hydrobromide is used in combination with other serotonergic agents. -Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment, as dosage adjustments may be necessary.


Side Effects

Common side effects of vortioxetine hydrobromide may include nausea, diarrhea, dry mouth, constipation, and dizziness. Less common but serious side effects may include serotonin syndrome, hyponatremia, and bleeding events.


Drug Interactions

Vortioxetine hydrobromide may interact with other medications such as monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), triptans, and certain herbal supplements. These interactions may increase the risk of serotonin syndrome or other adverse effects.
