Gaining weight and losing body shape due to work from home concept during lockdown has resulted in the rise of cosmetic and plastic surgeries, doctors have observed.

While speaking to Drug Today Medical Times at an event in Delhi, Dr Rajat Gupta, Senior Consultant, Cosmetic Surgery, Rosewalk Healthcare, Delhi, said that there is a 200% rise in cosmetic and plastic surgeries post-COVID period.

“Surgeries such as facial ones and body contouring, also known as nonsurgical fat reduction, liposuction (type of fat-removal procedure used in plastic surgery) have risen significantly,” Dr Gupta added.

Dr Gupta pointed out that the major cause of the rise in cosmetic and plastic surgery was working from home during the lockdown, which was imposed in response to COVID19.

“People gained weight, and they lost their shapes which they wanted to correct. The other cause is that people observed their faces very closely during online video meetings. In these meetings, they noted their face did not seem in correct shape and this prompted them to go for facial surgeries,” Dr Gupta informed.
