Fujifilm to provide free breast cancer screenings to one lakh women
Fujifilm India will screen about a lakh women for breast cancer in an effort to detect the disease, which is typically diagnosed in its third or fourth stage, increasing the likelihood of death in 38 locations throughout India
At the program's launch at Dr. Suraj Prakash Arogya Kendra in Faridabad, Haryana, Mr. Chander Shekhar Sibal, HOD & Vice President of Healthcare Business at Fujifilm India, made this announcement in an interview with Drug Today Medical Times.
"This campaign has been named as Find it early and fight it early," Mr. Sibal stated. Breast cancer cases are increasing quickly. An estimated 1,60,000 new cases and 50% of 1,60,000 cases are being reported every year. The fact that it is detected at an advanced stage is the primary reason for this 50% death rate.
"This campaign, which will involve one lakh women, has been launched in nineteen cities at 35 diagnostic centers. After screening, those who are suspected will have mammograms to confirm the condition. This is going to be an annual campaign. It's going to be free as part of a campaign to raise awareness. Workers from Asha will visit villages, hold awareness campaigns, and hold camps. The women will be examined for lumps, and FUJIFILM's digital mammography solution will be used if a lump is deteced. They will be sent to government hospitals for treatment if they test positive, Mr. Sibal continued.
The comprehensive program aims to significantly increase early intervention attempts for breast cancer in urban slums and lower-income communities. It is directed towards women who are physically ill and between the ages of 30 and 65.
The program will make use of a number of tools to create a smooth process with a significant result, including projectors for video instruction, educational materials like flyers and brochures to help with information retention, and an electronic screening application to create beneficiary data and document diagnosed conditions.
A Learning Management System will also be utilized for follow-up services for the identified patients, electronic counseling, and staff training.
"Find It Early, Fight It Early On-Ground Campaign" is an initiative of FUJIFILM India to raise awareness of the value of early detection and routine screening of lifestyle diseases, according to Mr. Koji Wada, Managing Director of FUJIFILM India. As part of this mission, we made a promotional video earlier this year featuring Ms. Sonali Bendre, our brand ambassador for breast cancer screening advocacy, to support the cause of early detection of breast cancer. As an on-the-ground initiative, our goal is to now reach more women from all backgrounds, particularly those in the socioeconomically disadvantaged segments of society, in order that we can make the technology and its reach more inclusive and contribute to the society in little ways that we can.”
As per the Globocan data 2020, in India, Breast Cancer accounted for 13.5% (178361) of all cancer cases and 10.6% (90408) of all deaths.
Dr. Ramesh Aggarwal, Director at Dr. Suraj Prakash Arogya Kendra, Faridabad said, “We believe that helping women across the nation will directly ensure a healthier future for all. So, our partnership with FUJIFILM India for the noble cause of early breast cancer detection aligns perfectly with this vision. Together, we will also be providing the required education for women to make informed decisions about their health.”
