Sakra World Hospital Breaks Record with Over 275 Joint Replacement Surgeries in May

May saw a record-breaking 425 orthopaedic surgeries performed at Bengaluru's Sakra World Hospital. Under Dr. Chandrashekar P., Director of Orthopaedics, the hospital's 15-member orthopaedic team accomplished a significant milestone. They completed 275 procedures in a month, more joint replacements than any other team in Karnataka. They also carried out a number of trauma operations, including around 70 arthroscopic procedures. With this achievement, Sakra World Hospital becomes the first hospital in Karnataka to do this many procedures in less than 30 days.

Dr. Chandrashekar has overseen approximately thirty thousand surgical operations at the Institute of Orthopaedics at Sakra World Hospital for the past eleven years. Joint replacements and other challenging orthopaedic procedures require precise surgical methods and skilled navigation of the intricate musculoskeletal system to guarantee the best possible alignment, stability, and functionality.

"We take pride in sending all these patients back home, following up with their physiotherapy, significantly improving their lifestyle, relieving their pain, and bringing smiles to them and their families," the physician said. Our knee replacement patients are typically older and have a higher risk of heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure. To assist these patients, we have a specialist cardiac intensive care unit team available around the clock.

Among the almost two hundred and seventy patients the hospital saw were those who had had heart bypass surgery, pacemakers, or angioplasty. Sakra World Hospital, open around the clock, provides state-of-the-art treatments such as robotic-assisted surgeries and arthroscopy (keyhole surgery) for the shoulder and knee, catering to a wide range of patients.

Sakra treats shoulder rotator cuff injuries, knee cartilage and meniscal tears, and ligaments (including ACL and PCL tears) with arthroscopic procedures. The facility also regularly does Bankart operations, which deal with shoulder replacements and dislocations.

With the outstanding care required for these sensitive procedures, Mr. Lovekesh Phasu, Group Chief Operating Officer of Sakra World Hospital, expressed outstanding happiness that the hospital completed 275 joint replacement procedures in just one month.

That we have achieved so much so fast makes us very happy. Sakra is committed to bringing more breakthroughs for our patients' benefit. "With the help of our patients, we want to continue growing," said Sakra World Hospital Deputy Managing Director, Mr. Naoya Matsumi.

Out of the more than 150 million Indians suffering from knee pain, an estimated 40 million require knee replacement surgery. Surgeon fees, implants, operating room costs, hospital room rent, drugs, and post-operative care all amount to about 1.5–6 lakh rupees. The operation's specifics, the patient's general condition, the hospital stay, the surgeon's reputation, and any post-operative care expenses are just a few of the many factors that could influence the final cost. Though metal-on-metal implants cost more, partial knee replacement is less expensive than total knee replacement. Diabetes or hypertension are two past illnesses that may make surgery more difficult and expensive. Patients will have better financial management skills.
