Gurgaon Doctors Remove 8.5-kilogram Overian Tumour from a 13-year-old girl

In an incredible medical feat, surgeons at Manipal Hospital in Gurugram saved the life of a 13-year-old girl by surgically removing a large 8.5-kilogramme cancer from her right ovary.

The girl, a 9th-grade student from Gurugram, has been experiencing stomach swelling and minor discomfort for the past three months, resulting in a loss of appetite and difficulties doing daily tasks.

According to media reports, the girl's relatives rushed her to Manipal Hospital, where an initial scan indicated a massive tumour that occupied the majority of her abdomen. A later CT scan revealed the presence of an 8.5-kilogramme tumour in her right ovary.

Dr. Sharmila Solanki, an obstetrician and gynecologist, led the medical team to perform an exploratory laparotomy.

Under general anesthesia, this operation was crucial for promptly inspecting the abdominal organs and assessing the extent and spread of the disease.

During the procedure, the doctors also performed a right salpingo-oophorectomy, which removed the ovary and fallopian tubes.

Dr. Sharmila told IANS that this phase was critical to determining the underlying cause of the tumour and ensuring appropriate treatment of any unhealthy tissue. The procedure successfully relieved the girl's symptoms and prevented the tumour's consequences.

"Remarkably, the left ovary and fallopian tube, along with her liver and the rest of the abdominal cavity, were found to be normal," Sharmila, the doctor, stated.

"The girl is healthy. She had successful surgery six weeks ago, and fresh PET-CT scans revealed no evidence of the disease. Her rehabilitation has been uneventful, and she remains under regular medical supervision," she said.

Dr. Sharmila stressed the significance of preserving ovarian health for women's overall health, fertility, and hormonal balance. She recommended women practice good behaviours such as eating a well-balanced diet rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, engaging in regular physical activity, avoiding smoking and excessive alcohol consumption, managing stress, and getting enough sleep.

She also emphasised the need for women to seek early medical attention and have regular check-ups if they notice any unexpected symptoms or changes in their menstrual cycle.
