Newly Renovated Unani Medical Centre Inaugurated at Dr. RML Hospital

In a significant step towards integrating traditional and modern healthcare, Dr. N. Zaheer Ahmed, Director General of the Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM), and Dr. Ajay Shukla, Director and Medical Superintendent of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences (ABVIMS) and Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital (RML), inaugurated the newly renovated Unani Medical Centre (UMC) at Dr. RML Hospital today.


During the inauguration, Dr. Ahmed emphasized the importance of research and documentation in Ayush systems and their integration with mainstream healthcare. He highlighted CCRUM’s achievements in Unani Medicine research and development and expressed his desire to strengthen relations with Dr. RML Hospital through an umbrella Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for collaborative research.

Prof. Shukla commended the health services provided by the UMC and stressed the need to showcase the strengths and potential of Unani Medicine to a broader audience. He proposed conducting sessions with various departments at Dr. RML Hospital to explore better healthcare solutions, particularly for musculoskeletal, skin, and gastrointestinal disorders.

Dr. Abdul Raheem, Incharge of UMC, in his welcome address, extended his gratitude to Dr. RML Hospital for their continuous support. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Ghazala Javed, Assistant Director (Unani) at CCRUM, and was hosted by Dr. Nighat Anjum, Research Officer (Unani) Scientist-IV, CCRUM. The event was also attended by Dr. B. K. Kundu, Additional Medical Superintendent of Dr. RML Hospital, and senior officers from CCRUM including Dr. Zaki Ahmad Siddiqui, Dr. Pradeep Kumar, Dr. Anwar Jamal, Dr. Farah Ahmed, Mohd. Niyaz Ahmad, and Mohammed Parvez.

The Unani Medical Centre, established on January 14, 1998, by the CCRUM under the scheme of collocating Ayush centers in Allopathic hospitals in Delhi, aims to provide Unani treatment to patients seeking this traditional system of medicine. Alongside its General Outpatient Department (GOPD), the center offers specialized Unani treatments for disorders such as vitiligo, eczema, psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, bronchial asthma, sinusitis, infective hepatitis, and diabetes mellitus. The center also features a Regimenal OPD, currently providing Cupping Therapy, with plans to introduce additional regimens in the newly constructed chamber for Regimenal Therapy.
