Dr. BN Gangadhar Appointed as Chairperson of the National Medical Commission

The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has announced the appointment of several distinguished medical professionals to key positions within the National Medical Commission (NMC) and its Autonomous Boards. These appointments will span four years, or until the appointee reaches the age of 70, whichever comes first.


Dr. B.N. Gangadhar, who currently serves as the President of the Medical Assessment and Rating Board, has been appointed as the Chairperson of the National Medical Commission. This appointment falls under Section 4 of the NMC Act, 2019.

Additionally, Dr. Sanjay Behari, Director of Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology in Thiruvananthapuram, has been named President of the Medical Assessment and Rating Board in accordance with Section 17(2) of the NMC Act, 2019.

Dr. Anil D’Cruz, Director of Oncology at Apollo Hospital in Mumbai, will serve as a full-time member of the Post-Graduate Medical Education Board, also under Section 17(2) of the NMC Act, 2019.

Furthermore, Dr. Rajendra Achyut Badwe, Professor Emeritus at Tata Memorial Centre in Mumbai, has been appointed as a part-time member of the Under-Graduate Medical Education Board for a two-year term. This term will extend until he reaches the age of 70 or until further orders, whichever comes first.

These appointments mark a significant step in the governance and oversight of medical education and practice in India, ensuring continued excellence and advancement in the field.
